Description: Vintage Wide African wood picks/combs, made by the Kuba people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dated mid-century. Minor scratches and inconsistent toning throughout. Overall excellent condition. See photos and select preferred comb(s) from the menu.

About: In many cultures in the Congo, elaborate coiffures were seen as a 'mark of civilization' and a representation of African aesthetics. Complex hairstyles take hours to make and require a structure to support this elegant coiffure. Combs such as this were used to ornament ceremonial coiffures and to untangle the hair.
