Vintage South African Ndebele Ceremonial Doll (Select Doll)

Vintage South African Ndebele Ceremonial dolls. Both dolls measure 15 inches tall and 4 inches at the base and hand beaded with intricate designs. Beads are in tact and stitching it tight throughout. Stuffed and lightweight.  

About: In The Ndebele tribe, the brass rings around the neck symbolize wealth and status. Only married women are allowed to wear the rings, which are called "dzilla". During courtship, a suitor would place a Ceremonial doll outside a young woman's hut indicating his intention to propose marriage to her.
