Vintage large-format original "Free Angela Davis" poster. Features a black/white line drawing illustration of Angela Davis. Printed and distributed by the New York Committee to Free Angela Davis. Stamped (lower right corner) by the Union Printers of New York logo. Wear and staining is highly visible, but it’s an excellent collector’s item. Original mounting tape along the top and bottom edges. Thick cardstock. Measures 16.75" across by 21.75" tall. Overall toning from use and storage.
About: On October 13, 1970, Angela Davis was arrested at the Howard Johnson Motor Lodge in Midtown Manhattan. Her 18-month incarceration, which ultimately resulted in an acquittal, set off the nationwide “Free Angela Davis” movement among activists and artists. T-shirts, posters, pins and other merchandise was made as part of consciousness-raising efforts. There were chapters across the country, including New York, Oakland/Bay Area, Chicago and more.
