About: "Give a damn" was the official slogan for the New York Urban Coalition. Created in 1969 by the advertising agency, Young & Rubicam the "Give A Damn" campaign was nearly as widespread as the "I Love NY" marketing campaign and intended to inspire New Yorkers to care are one another, the conditions in their communities and the lived experiences of their neighbors. The messaging was adopted by social justice organizations/movements of the time and spread by way of pins, newspaper ads, subway ads, radio/celeb PSAs, handbills and television commercials like this one.
