Vintage softcover first edition copy of "Black Poetry" by poet and scholar, Dudley Randall. Subtitled, "A Supplement to Anthologies Which Exclude Black Poets". Published in 1969. Rare text. In good condition in with some some discoloration/fading. 48 pages.
About: Dudley Randall was a librarian by profession, and started the Broadside Press out of his home in 1965. The first edition of this remarkable anthology, radical in both the scope and quality of the work included, but also by the design - a slender volume designed to act as a supplement to other published anthologies which excluded black poets. Framed thus, this slender volume acts as a resounding indictment of other published anthologies. As noted on the front cover, includes work by Nikki Giovanni, Langston Hughes, Amiri Baraka, Gwendolyn Brooks and Haki Madhubuti.
