About: In 1962, British paperback publisher Penguin launched The Penguin African Library (PAL) series and it ran until the mid-seventies. The series was edited by Ronald Segal, a white, Jewish, South African exiled in the UK for his anti-apartheid activism. The PAL series includes 42 books focused on Africa, and featuring the writings of Africans.
