About: Tan Magazine was published by Johnson Publishing Company of Chicago, IL. Tan, Ebony and Jet all served as a hub of discussion for critical issues occurring in American black communities from the 1950's, onward. Tan was published/distributed out of Chicago, New York, as well as Los Angeles and served as the tabloid arm of Johnson Publications. Tan is no longer in print.
