About: Bobby Seale was Co-Founder and Chairman of the Black Panther Party, which he founded with Huey P Newton in 1966. Seale was arrested, along with seven other activists, on the charge of inciting a riot outside the Democratic National Convention in 1968, thus becoming one of the famous Chicago Eight (later seven) defendants. He was later sentenced to four years in jail for contempt of court. "Free Bobby" pins, posters and other ephemera were created by the Party and supporters in an effort to raise public consciousness, awareness and resistance to the targeting of black activist leaders.
