Description: Vintage 1968 memorial felt banner with a portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on one side, with the words "We Shall Overcome" along with King's birth and death dates. On the other side is a portrait of John F. Kennedy with the words "We Mourn Our Loss" and his birth and death dates. The yellow and white printed letters and portraits are bold against the black felt banner. Measures 12" x 18". No dowel or original tassels included. Large creases due to wear & age; however, banner is fully in tact. No odors.
About: Banner was produced by the American Negro Public Opinion Service, established in 1961 by Jesse Glass. This group participated in numerous demonstrations and sit-ins throughout the 1960s and 1970s, and supported a wide variety of civil rights groups, including the Black Panther Party.
